Our European team was proud to support Hawkin customer, Dr. Jaime Fernandez-Fernandez, at two tennis Masters 1000 tournaments held in Europe recently. Dr. Fernandez-Fernandez, a researcher and strength and conditioning coach from the University of Leon, who has specialized in racket sports for more than 20 years, provided strength and conditioning support to elite tennis players at the ATP 1000 tournaments in Madrid in late April and Rome in early May. He wanted to include a force plate assessment as part of it.
Dr. Marcos Soriano was on hand to provide force plates for the Madrid tournament and local technical support, while Dr. John McMahon built a dashboard in Google Sheets to provide automated reports (via an API, courtesy of our Chief Technology Officer, Chris Wales) for each player after they had been assessed. For the Rome Open tournament, Patrick O’Keeffe from our Ireland office coordinated the logistics of getting our force plates to the Italian capital ahead of the event and Dr. Soriano and Dr. McMahon provided remote support.
This was the first time force plate assessments had been included during ATP 1000 tournaments. This provides a huge opportunity for both Dr. Fernandez-Fernandez and Hawkin Dynamics to showcase the benefits of combining tennis-specific strength and conditioning knowledge with best-in-class force assessment technology and support.
The collaboration was a great success and below you can see footage of Jan-Lennard Struff, the world number 41, performing a countermovement jump on our gen 5 force plates in the on-site gym in Madrid.
